Are you kidding me?  I love Nowness, but this is ridiculous.  First, know that I love it when people try to create an updated take on art history.  It’s usually intriguing and clever and we’re all impressed.  But Bryan Ferry’s modern version of Manet’s Olympia is just Kate Moss rolling around in bed.  In fact, I’d say in the wake of our world today, we’ve seen too much.  Having been as desensitized in matters of nudity and sexuality as we are (maybe I’m only speaking for myself here), it’s impossible to recreate the controversy and outrage that Manet’s painting aroused in its time.  So, good job Bryan Ferry, you hired a good photographer who took some nice photos of a naked woman flopping around amongst the sheets (how original), but don’t call it Olympia.
